In your child’s musical journey, parental understanding and companionship often matter more than the technique itself. To help parents build a scientific, long-term, and child-centred perspective on piano learning, SoMe Music School held the parent seminar “Walking the Artistic Journey with Children” on 4 June 2025. The session explored key topics including piano learning planning, interest cultivation, teacher selection, and effective at-home practice, offering parents a structured and in-depth framework for supporting their children.
Planning your Child’s Musical Path: 3 Key Dimensions of Personalized Learning
The panel discussion began with the topic “How to Plan a Child’s Musical Learning Path,” emphasizing that piano study should not follow a single, fixed progression. Instead, learning should be tailored to each child’s personality, learning pace, and long-term goals. Music education is not about replicating others’ success, but about guiding children to gradually understand themselves and build confidence through the learning process.

3-Year Piano Learning Plan for Beginners: What truly matters in the first 3 years?
Addressing parents’ common concern about what children should focus on during the first three years of piano study, SoMe Music School draws on long-term teaching experience to emphasize that early learning is not about speed or examinations. Instead, the focus should be on building correct foundational technique, developing healthy practice habits, and cultivating a genuine understanding and sensitivity to music. A solid foundation is the key to a child’s long-term progress and sustained growth.

Sustaining interest over time: Not an Innate Talent, but something cultivated.
Whether a child can persist in learning the piano often depends on whether their interest can be sustained. The panel discussion noted that interest is not innate, but built through a combination of a sense of achievement, performance experience, and positive reinforcement. By setting stage-appropriate goals, providing opportunities to perform, and offering timely encouragement, children gain ongoing motivation and develop a positive cycle of learning.

How can parents effectively support practice after lessons: It’s about Direction, not Time.
When it comes to practice support, SoMe Music School emphasizes that accompanying practice is not about monitoring how long a child plays, but about helping them build a clear practice structure, understand practice goals, and maintain emotional stability. With the right approach, practice becomes more efficient and unnecessary parent–child stress can be reduced.

Choosing the Right Piano Teacher: 3 Key Qualities of an excellent Music Educator
The panel discussion concluded by addressing parents’ common concerns about teacher selection. SoMe Music School identified three core qualities of an outstanding piano teacher: strong professional expertise, clear and structured teaching logic, and an educational perspective that truly understands a child’s pace of growth. The right teacher can shape a child’s musical attitude for many years—sometimes even for life.
