On 10 November 2025, the founder of SoMe Music School, Emily Wang, was invited by the Chinese Pavilion of the American International School to share a parent talk themed “Art and Family Education — Let Music Become the Gentle Strength of the Family.”
The talk began from everyday family life, exploring topics such as music appreciation, emotional companionship and parent-child relationships. Rather than emphasizing professional training or technical skills, the session encouraged parents to reconsider the role of art within the home. Emily Wang invited families to slow down amid busy schedules and leave space for music, allowing art to naturally become a stable and gentle presence in daily life.
During the session, Emily also shared insights into Singapore’s rich local arts resources, offering parents diverse and accessible ways to engage with the arts. From community art events and volunteer opportunities to arts courses, as well as concerts and cultural experiences suitable for families to enjoy together, the aim was to help parents discover easy and meaningful entry points to art so that beauty and emotional nourishment can quietly become part of everyday living.
Music is not only something that belongs on stage. It can also live in moments of quiet listening: a peaceful evening, shared family time, or the emotional comfort brought by a familiar melody. When art is gently woven into daily life, it does not seek attention, yet it offers families lasting warmth and strength over time.
The value of arts education goes beyond skill development. At its heart, it is about accompanying people through life. Through sharing, activities and performances, we hope to bring music into more households, allowing it to speak softly in everyday moments, gentle yet steadfast.
Special thanks to the Chinese Pavilion of the American International School for the kind invitation and to the Chairperson and Vice Chairperson for their strong support. We also sincerely thank the Binary catering team for their thoughtful food arrangements. Most importantly, thank you to every parent who listened attentively and participated in the discussion. Your engagement made this dialogue on art and family truly warm and meaningful.
